DMK announces 21 candidates for Lok Sabha elections, releases manifesto

Chennai: The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday released the list of candidates for 21 seats for the April 19 Lok Sabha elections, retaining Kanimozhi, TR Baalu and A Raja among other sitting MPs.

It has allotted the remaining 18 seats to its allies – Congress, Left parties and VCK, among others.
The party also released its manifesto for the elections, which also included the appointment of governors and abrogation of Article 356, among other topics.

Of the 21 names fielded by the ruling party, 11 were new faces, even including the names of three women, including sitting South Chennai MP Tamizhachi Thangapandian.
Dayanidhi Maran, S Jagathrakshakan, Kalanidhi Veerasamy, Kathir Anand and CN Annadurai have also been retained.
In its manifesto, the party, among other things, called for consulting states on the appointment of governors, abolishing Article 356, which allowed the Center to dismiss the state government, and taking steps to grant statehood to Puducherry. promised.
