Development projects worth Rs 7,100 crore: PM to inaugurate projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today

Tamil Nadu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate various infrastructure and development projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday (March 1).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Chennai on a two-day visit at 8:15 pm on Saturday. He was welcomed at the airport by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, Union Minister of State L. Murugan, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, and senior government and police officials on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government. From the airport, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Governor’s House in Guindy and stayed there overnight.
On Sunday (March 1) morning, he will fly to Chennai Airport and from there, fly by helicopter to Puducherry. At 11:45 am, he will address a program in Puducherry, where he will dedicate various development projects worth over ₹2,700 crore to the nation and lay the foundation stone for some of them.
After completing his visit to Puducherry, the Prime Minister will travel by helicopter to Thanjavur and from there, by private plane to Madurai. There, at around 3 p.m., he will inaugurate and dedicate to the nation infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,400 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone for some of them.
At 4 p.m., the Prime Minister will visit the Arulmigu Subramaniaswamy Temple in Thiruparankundram, Madurai. Later, he will address a public meeting attended by leaders of the National Democratic Alliance. Afterward, the Prime Minister will conclude his visit to Tamil Nadu at 6:10 p.m. and return to Delhi. In Puducherry…: The Prime Minister will inaugurate the electric bus service project in Puducherry, the Integrated Command and Control Center under the Smart Cities Mission, houses for economically weaker sections under the Urban Investments for Innovation, Integration and Sustainability initiative, and the Puducherry government’s most important sewage and water supply sector projects.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Campus and Ganga Hostel at the Joint Engineering Campus of the National Institute of Technology in Karaikal; the modernization of the Regional Cancer Center at JIPMAR Hospital; and the new annex buildings, lecture halls, and hostels of Pondicherry University.
He will also dedicate the 750-acre Karasur-Chetharpattu Industrial Estate to the nation. This will include a pharmaceutical park, a textile park, a technology park, a state-of-the-art research and development center of IIT Madras, and advanced healthcare facilities of JIPMER.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for drinking water supply projects that will improve drinking water systems and ensure clean and safe drinking water for the residents of the Puducherry region.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of 41 rural roads under the Rural Road Development Scheme, the development of heritage cities in Puducherry, mangrove restoration under the MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Coastal Habitat and Sustainable Income) scheme, water supply and sanitation sector projects, and power sector projects under the Reconstructed Distribution Area Scheme. Similarly, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for various projects under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme, covering key sectors such as urban roads, drainage networks, government buildings, student hostels, and sports facilities. This project, costing ₹4,400 crore in Madurai, aims to improve connectivity and mobility and accelerate the region’s economic growth.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Marakkanam-Puducherry section of National Highway 332 and the four-laning of the Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram section of National Highway 87, significantly reducing travel time.
