Designer labels take the lead for Indian women’s swimwear

Lifestyle: Actress and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar has teamed up with stylist Sheefa J. Gilani to announce her “island-wear” label, Dweep. “Our idea is to offer a brand that suits Indian body types,” says Chhillar. “We have found a sweet spot between fast fashion and designerwear.” Chhillar couldn’t have chosen a better time to launch. Designer labels have led the way for Indian women’s swimwear over the past decade: Shivan & Narresh created gravity-defying swimsuits, and Verandah by Anjali Mehta Patel made an international splash. Now the horizon is expanding beyond high fashion.
