Delhi Police gets 3 more days remand of Lawrence Bishnoi

New Delhi (IANS) | Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was on Sunday remanded to police custody for three more days in an extortion case by a Saket court. Lawrence Bishnoi was produced in the court by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police after completion of 10 days police remand. The crime branch requested a three-day remand from the court, saying they needed to collect more information from Lawrence.

The crime branch argued that we have arrested a person. We need to do face-to-face interrogation with the other accused. Lawrence also needs to be taken to Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

The crime branch told the court that to unearth the criminal nexus of accused Lawrence Bishnoi with accused Akshay, it was required to collect information about another accused Kapil. Further it also needs to be ascertained as to how accused Lawrence Bishnoi was able to give instructions to accused Akshay despite being in jail. The court then allowed the police, saying that interrogation was necessary for a meaningful conclusion of the investigation.

On June 9, Lawrence, through his counsel, filed an application before the special NIA court, requesting the court not to detain him in Mandoli jail. He had requested in his application that instead of Mandoli, he should be kept in a jail in Bathinda.

Lawrence, in his petition, had submitted that if he is kept in Mandoli jail again, he is likely to be attacked as his rivals are also lodged in the same jail. There is a danger of gang war and violence.

His lawyer Vishal Chopra said that after this the court has ensured that the Delhi Police will shift Lawrence back to Bathinda jail amid tight security after completion of three days custody of the crime branch. Lawrence is likely to be taken to Gandhinagar in Gujarat in another case.
