Delhi Police ASI arrested on charges of demanding a bribe of ₹20,000.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police was held by the Vigilance Unit for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant in lieu of providing relief to a person named in an FIR, officials said.

According to the police, the action was taken after a complaint was received at the Vigilance Unit on Barakhamba Road, in which the complainant alleged that his wife had lodged a case related to harassment for dowry demand against him.

He alleged that the Investigating Officer had been harassing and threatening him with strict action against him and his family members named in the FIR. The officer had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000, which was later reduced to Rs 20,000 after negotiations. In this regard, an FIR under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered and the officer was caught red-handed, an official said.

The police encouraged citizens to come forward and report any instances where police personnel demand bribes.
