DelhiDelhi: The high court on Monday rejected the bail plea of BRS leader K Kavitha in two cases of corruption and money laundering related to the alleged excise tax scam.Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma, who had reserved the order on two bail applications of Kavitha on May 28, dismissed the pleas.The detailed court order is awaited.Kavitha challenged the trial court’s May 6 order rejecting her bail plea in the CBI corruption case and the ED money laundering case.SC to hear pleas alleging irregularities in exams on July 8Kavitha’s counsel said she was the only woman among the 50 accused in the excise case and urged the court to consider granting her bail as the law gives a different status to women.The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) rejected Kavitha’s bail pleas and said she was powerful enough to influence witnesses.Kavitha is in custody in both the cases.
The case refers to alleged corruption and money laundering in the case, which was later withdrawn. The ED arrested Kavitha (46) from her residence in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad on March 15. The CBI arrested her from Tihar jail. In her bail plea in the ED cases, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and daughter of former Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said she had “no connection” with the excise policy and had “active tolerance towards the excise policy” against her. It was a criminal conspiracy hatched by the ruling party at the Centre.
