Delhi High Court issues notice on Sukesh Chandrasekhar’s plea against jail order
New Delhi (IANS) | The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice on the plea of alleged thug Sukesh Chandrasekhar against the sentence awarded to him by the jail authorities.
From May 1 to May 15, orders from prison authorities barred him from meeting family, using the phone and canteen facilities.
The alleged thug is lodged in the Mandoli jail in the national capital.
Chandrashekhar’s prayer before the court is that the order dated April 17 passed by the office of the Deputy Jail Superintendent, Mandoli, be quashed and the same be stayed till the instant petition is decided.
On Chandrashekhar’s plea, Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued notice to the jail authorities concerned and also directed them to file a report on it.
As Additional Standing Counsel Nandita Rao accepted the notice, the court listed the matter for further hearing on April 28.
Advocate Ananth Malik, appearing for the petitioner (Chandrasekhar), argued that principles of natural justice are being violated and it is a serious issue as the family of the petitioner’s mother resides in Bengaluru.
Malik said that it is very important and punishment should be stopped.
However, Rao opposed the submissions, denying urgency in the matter and said she would file a status report.
The plea states that the Deputy Jail Superintendent arbitrarily, wrongly and without application of mind, has given two punishment tickets against the petitioner, depriving him of canteen facility and meeting/phone call facility for 15 days Is.
It is contended by the petitioner that these restricted facilities are the only way to communicate with his aged mother, who is currently living in Bangalore and cannot travel to meet her son (Chandrasekhar) due to her health condition Is.
