Defense Minister approves proposal for NCC Cadet Corps expansion

New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal to expand the National Cadet Corps. At the same time, to meet the increasing demand in educational institutions across the country, three lakh cadet vacancies have been included. After starting with only 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC will now have a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets, making it the largest uniformed youth organization in the world, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the National Education Policy 2020, the introduction of NCC as an optional subject is a big step towards the youth playing an important role in the development of the country. The far-reaching impact of this extension will result in vacancies in all states and union territories. The expansion plan includes the establishment of four new group headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units. An important aspect of the expansion plan includes the proposal to employ ex-servicemen as NCC trainers, taking advantage of their skills and vast experience. This initiative will ensure quality training for NCC cadets and create employment opportunities.
