Death of CISF jawan in hit and run accident in Bhubaneswar: Accused car driver arrested

Bhubaneswar: The driver of the car involved in a hit and run accident in Bhubaneswar that killed a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan yesterday has been arrested. The Airport Police arrested the accused driver whom it identified as Sobhan Mohapatra.

The CISF jawan, identified as Niranjan Pradhan, was reportedly going on his bike for his duty at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (Bhubaneswar Airport) last evening. However, Mohapatra, who was driving a car under the influence of alcohol, hit him near the Kargil Basti in Pokhariput and fled from the spot before anyone could identify him.

Some locals, however, managed to nab the accused car driver near the Palashpalli Bridge and handed him over to the police, who in return forwarded him to the court.

On the other hand, Niranjan Pradhan, who was rescued in a critical condition and was admitted at the Capital Hospital for treatment, succumbed to his injuries this morning.

Police have seized both the vehicles involved in the hit and run accident.
