DC visits border villages to review progress of VVP projects

KHONSA : Tirap Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik on Thursday visited remote Indo-Myanmar border villages under Lazu administrative circle and reviewed developmental works under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) and assessed the condition of critical road infrastructure connecting the border region.

The deputy commissioner, accompanied by government officials, gaon buras and panchayat leaders, inspected the vulnerable Pongkong block point on the Khonsa-Lazu road and reviewed the progress of the proposed diversion road from Sanliam village.

During his visit, PWD officials briefed the DC on the proposed road alignment, survey findings and the ongoing jungle clearance required for the diversion. The DC also inspected the landslide-prone Pongkong stretch, where recurring road blockages frequently disrupt connectivity to the interior border villages.

Concerned over the hardships faced by commuters, the DC directed BRO authorities to keep adequate manpower and machinery on standby to ensure immediate restoration of traffic whenever landslides occur. He stressed that uninterrupted road connectivity is essential for the movement of people, transportation of essential commodities, emergency response services and effective delivery of government programmes in the border areas.

Reviewing the implementation of the VVP projects, the DC urged village authorities and residents of Noglo to actively cooperate with implementing agencies, so that developmental projects can be completed in a time-bound manner.

He said the programme has the potential to transform the border villages through improved infrastructure, enhanced livelihood opportunities and better public services.

Responding to public grievances regarding Aadhaar enrolment, the DC directed the Lazu EAC to organise a special Aadhaar biometric enrolment and updation camp for the border villages of Noglo, Upper Chinhan, Lower Chinhan and Lonyen.

The DC also interacted with village elders, community leaders and residents, assuring them of the district administration’s continued commitment to strengthening infrastructure and improving public service delivery in the remote border areas.

Residents of Sanliam, Pongkong, Lazu and Noglo welcomed the DC’s maiden visit to the Indo-Myanmar border villages soon after assuming office. The villagers also reaffirmed their full support for the successful implementation of projects under the VVP.

Among others, Lazu ZPM Najen Rangwang, Lazu Assistant Commissioner NL Naam, PWD engineers Minter Ango and Kijen Ransong, NABARD DDC Rowncha Wangsu, BRO engineer Abhishek, Capt Sumit Sharma of the 44 Assam Rifles, GBs, panchayati leaders and representatives of the Noglo Welfare Society accompanied the DC during his visit.
