Darshan confesses to giving Rs 30 lakh to another accused

BENGALURU: Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, accused No 2 in the Renukaswamy murder case, is said to have confessed to his involvement in the case as per the remand application submitted by the police to the court.

According to the remand copy, the 47-year-old actor confessed to having given Rs 30 lakh to Pradosh, another accused in the case, to manage the police and lawyers and to pay those who surrender before the police, claiming that they had committed the murder. The actor is said to have given the money to make sure that his name does not come up in the case. As per the remand copy, the actor mentioned this in his voluntary statement. During their search, the police seized cash from Pradosh’s house on JP Road in Girinagar.

Meanwhile, Darshan, Pavithra Gowda and 13 other accused in the case were taken to Victoria Hospital, where their blood and hair samples were collected.

The samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to ascertain if the accused were under the influence of any substance at the time of committing the crime. Since the police custody of the accused ends on Thursday, the police are ensuring that all angles in the probe are covered.

The Vijaynagar sub-division police questioned Darshan’s wife Vijayalakshmi on Wednesday. The police, while collecting evidence, found the actor’s shoes at her house on Outer Ring Road in Banashankari. The shoes that were found at her house were reportedly worn by the actor at the time of the murder in the Pattanagere shed in RR Nagar. After collecting the shoes, the police issued her a notice to appear before the investigating officer.

Vijayalakshmi went to Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station with two advocates for the first time in nine days of Darshan’s police custody. Meanwhile, Narendra Singh, who reportedly witnessed the murder, is said to have given his statements before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC.

The police are yet to recover Renukaswamy’s mobile phone, said to be thrown into the Sumanahalli stormwater drain. So far, 118 pieces of evidence, including the vehicles used in the crime, clothes worn by the accused, clothes of the victim, blood samples, mobile phones, weapons used to kill the victim, megger device, and CCTV footage, have been collected.
