Crops affected due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm

Mumbai: Various crops including cotton have been affected due to unseasonal rains along with hailstorm in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

Nagpur, Yavatmal, Wardha and Amravati districts of Vidarbha region received heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and hailstorm on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a forecast of unseasonal rain in the region on Saturday.

According to a revenue official of Wardha district, ‘Crops like cotton, wheat, gram, arhar have been ruined due to rain and wind, the state revenue officials will soon assess the loss as the fields are still wet.’

The weather department on Sunday also issued a ‘yellow alert’ for most parts of Vidarbha, saying there is a possibility of thunderstorm and rain at many places in the region.
