Crime rate in Tripura will decline sharply in 2025: CM Manik Saha

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said that the overall crime rate in the state has declined sharply compared to 2023, indicating improved law and order by November 2025.
Saha made this statement after chairing a high-level review meeting on law and order with senior police officers, including Superintendents of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, and Officers-in-Charge of police stations, at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio, said that police stations are the foundation of the entire delivery system and stressed the need for professionalism and accountability at the grassroots level.
“Our state has 90 police stations and nine women’s police stations. There was a time when political leaders had close ties with the officers in charge, leading to indiscipline. We must break that culture. I never called any OC. Those who ruled the state for 35 years enjoyed such practices, but now officers have been told to perform their duties independently and responsibly,” Saha said.
He emphasized that police officers are part of society and should perform their duties with dignity and impartiality. Describing the uniform as an ornament, he said it should always be respected.
“There was a time when police officers were identified by political overtones. Such a situation should never arise. Officers will be recognized solely on the basis of their work. I do not interfere in police operations. However, based on reports, I hold meetings with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and District Magistrate (DM) every fortnight to seek clarifications where necessary,” he said.
Saha directed the officers in charge to closely monitor the registration of FIRs and ensure they are drafted properly.
He also stressed the importance of submitting charge sheets on time to avoid delays in justice.
“If a police officer appears unwell or distressed, counseling can be arranged. Physical fitness is very important for police officers, and daily exercise should be ensured,” he added.
Presenting crime statistics, the Chief Minister said that crimes across all major categories have significantly decreased. Crimes against the human body, which were 1,385 cases in 2023, decreased to 753 cases by November 2025. Crimes against women decreased from 791 cases in 2023 to 627 cases in the same period in 2025.
He also reported that overall crime cases decreased from 5,002 in 2023 to 3,386 by November 2025, a significant reduction.
Saha said that cases under the NDPS Act were also discussed, and the Centre’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was reiterated.
He said, “The current government will not compromise on law and order. Issues related to Bangladesh were also discussed, and we are keeping a close watch on communal elements, brokers, and other anti-social activities. Such activities will not be allowed,” adding that collective efforts are necessary to build a new India and a new Tripura.
Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
