CPI Secretary M. Veerapandian condemned the rhetoric of Anita Radhakrishnan and Adhav Arjun

Tamil Nadu: M. Veerapandian, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Chennai, issued a statement on Saturday, expressing serious objection to political rhetoric in Tamil Nadu. He condemned the recent statements made by former minister and current MLA of Thoothukudi district, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, and Minister Adhav Arjun.
Veerapandian stated that it was highly condemnable that former minister and current MLA, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, made derogatory remarks about the Chief Minister’s personal life at a public meeting. He clarified that in a democracy, everyone has the right to criticize the actions of the government and the policies of various political parties, and this is part of a healthy democratic process. However, it is not appropriate to bring personal life into any political debate.
He further stated that publicly making derogatory comments about someone’s personal life in the political arena is a violation of the law. It is the government’s responsibility to take legal action in such cases. However, he added that the police should have avoided such drastic action as forcibly arresting a sitting MLA. According to him, such actions are inconsistent with democratic values ββand balanced administrative processes.
In the same statement, M. Veerapandian also strongly objected to Minister Adhav Arjun’s statement. He stated that the minister’s statement, “We will not let this go unpunished,” referring to the Karur incident during a party meeting, was inappropriate. According to him, such statements do not properly reflect political responsibility and sensitivity.
Veerapandian stated that leaders holding responsible positions in public life are expected to exercise restraint in their language and expression. He emphasized that maintaining decorum and a high level of culture in politics is the responsibility of all leaders. Under no circumstances should statements be made that create tension or send a wrong message in society.
He also stated that disagreement and criticism are natural in a democratic system, but should not be turned into personal attacks. Political parties must ensure that their language and behavior remain in accordance with the dignity of democracy.
In his statement, M. Veerapandian also appealed that political parties should focus on public issues and avoid personal accusations. He stated that the primary objective of politics should be to solve public problems, not to promote personal disputes.
He concluded that the strength of democracy lies in all political parties and leaders respecting each other’s ideologies and expressing their views in a civil manner. He warned that if such rhetoric continues, it could impact the democratic environment.
This entire issue has sparked a new debate in Tamil Nadu politics. While on the one hand, there is a right to freedom of expression and political criticism, on the other, questions are being raised about the limits of decorum and responsibility. Following this statement by the CPI state secretary, a wave of reactions and discussions has intensified in political circles.
