CPI leader strongly reacts to AI misuse

Tamil Nadu: Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary M. Veerapandian on Sunday strongly reacted to posts on social media using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to tarnish the image of former leaders. Calling it condemnable and unacceptable, he said such activities not only defame the late leaders but also question the morality and political values โ€‹โ€‹of society.

Veerapandian specifically mentioned former Chief Minister Karunanidhi in his statement. He said that AI technology has been used on social media to tarnish Karunanidhi’s reputation and dignity. Such posts have caused concern and outrage among the public. According to him, any citizen’s response to seeing a derogatory post cannot be limited to merely condemning it.

He also said that the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay, is also being misrepresented through AI-based posts on social media. This indicates that the misuse of AI technology is not limited to historical or former leaders, but is also targeting current political leadership.

Veerapandian warned that while AI technology has become a major vehicle for scientific and technological progress, if it falls into the wrong hands, it could lead to serious social and political problems. He stated that experts worldwide are discussing how to prevent the misuse of AI and mitigate its negative consequences.

The CPI leader emphasized that when such heinous crimes occur in society, society as a whole must condemn them. He stated that individual reactions alone are not enough, but that this trend must be stopped through solidarity and social awareness. He appealed to all political parties, social media platforms, and citizens to prevent the spread of such unethical and offensive posts and ensure action in accordance with law and ethics.

Experts believe that the use of AI-based fake posts and deepfake videos is steadily increasing. Its misuse not only affects the image of political leaders but can also spread confusion and instability among the general public. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all sections of society to ensure that technological advancements are used appropriately and that no one’s reputation or dignity is harmed.

Veerapandian also demanded action from the government and social media companies in this matter. He said that while technology benefits society, its misuse will not be tolerated at any level.
