Court: Father-in-law gets life imprisonment in married woman’s murder case
Gonda: A court in the district has sentenced the father-in-law to life imprisonment, holding him guilty in a three-and-a-half-year-old case of murder of a newly married woman for dowry. The court acquitted the accused husband and mother-in-law in the case due to lack of evidence. The District Government Advocate (Criminal) said on Thursday that Chandravati was murdered about three and a half years ago in Khargupur area of the district, just five months after marriage.
In this case, a case of dowry murder was registered at Khargupur police station on 16 December 2021. He said that it was alleged in the complaint that since marriage, Chandravati’s husband Kunj Bihari, his father Ishwarchandra and mother used to beat and torture her for dowry. When the demand was not met, they killed Chandravati. Shukla said that after hearing both the parties, District Judge Pramod Kumar Srivastava on Wednesday evening convicted the accused father-in-law Ishwarchandra of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000.
