Cooch Behar: 65 people fall ill after eating prasad in religious function, fear of food poisoning
At least 65 people fell ill after eating prasad at a religious function in Cooch Behar on Thursday night.
He is undergoing treatment in two hospitals. The district administration has sent a team to inspect Dauguri village in Mathabhanga sub-division and suspects it to be a case of food poisoning.
Sources said a “kirtan” was organized in Dauguri on Thursday.
“Khichdi” and “Chira (Poha)” were served to the devotees around 9 pm. As soon as they consumed the food, many people started complaining of stomach ache and nausea. Later in the night, some also suffered from dysentery and vomiting.
As of Friday morning, 27 were admitted to the sub-divisional hospital in Mathabhanga, while 38 are undergoing treatment at the block health center in Ghoksadanga.
An official said a team was sent to the village to find out the cause of the illness.
