Contract worth Rs 1,538.35 crore awarded for manufacturing driverless metro trains

Tamil Nadu: Alstom Transport India has been awarded a contract worth Rs 1,538.35 crore for the manufacture of 32 driverless 3 coach metro trains in the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project.
As the number of passengers traveling by metro in Chennai is increasing day by day, the Metro Railway Administration is working to control the traffic congestion and extend the metro rail project to all areas.
In such a situation, the letter of acceptance of the contract for the manufacture of this driverless metro train was given to Alstom Transport India and the contract signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Metro Rail Administration in Chennai on Thursday.
Director Manoj Goyal (Organization and Operations) on behalf of Chennai Metro Rail Corporation and Director Parag Nandlal Goyal of Alstom Transport India were present and signed the agreement.
As per this agreement, the company will undertake the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, training of personnel and provision of driverless metro trains including 15 years of complete maintenance of metro trains and workshop machinery.
Moreover, the first metro train manufactured under this contract will be handed over in 2027, while operational tests, integration tests with other systems and service tests will be carried out on the route for 14 consecutive months. After this, all the remaining metro trains will be handed over to the Metro Rail Corporation in phases from September 2027 to May 2028, Metro Railway management officials said.
