Contact began through WhatsApp chats, pressure to have three children
PATHANAMTHITTA, Pathanamthitta: The complainant stated in her statement that she received MLA Rahul Mamkootathil’s number from a friend. She said she simply saved the number in her phone. She clarified that she had never called Rahul. The complainant has been working in Canada since 2019.
In September 2023, the woman sent a link to a Courtier company to order a mobile phone for her father to her childhood friend Rahul, who lives in her hometown. However, she accidentally sent the message to Rahul Mamkootathil’s number. He immediately deleted the message. From then on, she began receiving messages from him saying “hi” or “hello.” Later, when they began chatting, he asked her about her family. He spoke as if he had known her for years. She did not hide her marriage from Rahul.
During their conversations, he would ask her about her husband and children. Rahul’s attitude changed when she said that the reason for not having children was some problems in their marriage. The woman said that he continued to pressure her to leave her husband and marry him. Rahul had expressed his desire to have at least three children. However, Rahul told the woman that he was busy and needed a good mother to take care of his children. Rahul admitted that he would not be a good partner, but he assured her that he would be a good father to their children. When the woman expressed doubts about whether this relationship would just be a ‘time pass’, he told her that he would introduce her to his family when she got home.
