Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took part in the Palm Sunday procession

Kerala. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took part in the Palm Sunday procession. Shashi Tharoor said, “It is a beautiful occasion, the area has St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the large Jama Masjid and one of the oldest Ganesh temples in the state. All this is located literally in a few square kilometers in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram. So Respecting the inter-religious solidarity and harmonious co-existence of our people has a great symbolic value for all of us. It is in that spirit that I have joined here in the Palm Sunday procession.
How is Palm Sunday celebrated?
The ritual or religious observance generally begins with the blessing of the palms by the priest. This is followed by the recitation of the Passion of the Christ, which is meant to be an account of the final events of Jesus’ life. Encyclopædia Britannica says that in some ceremonies in German-speaking countries, Jesus was depicted riding on a donkey. The figure is called the “Palmsel” or “Palm Donkey” in German, according to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, which describes on its site how worshipers would place palms on the ground in front of the Palmsel during lively processions. Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land celebrate Palm Sunday by holding masses and processions to commemorate the triumphal entry of Jesus. Worshipers carry palm fronds and olive branches and march from the top of the neighboring Mount of Olives to the historic Old City of Jerusalem, home to the holy sites of the three Abrahamic monotheistic religions.
