Congress: Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra facing difficulty in getting permission for rallies in West Bengal

West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday said his party is facing problems in getting permission to hold some public meetings under the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra in West Bengal.

Speaking to reporters in Siliguri, Choudhary said the party wanted to hold public meetings at some places, but permission was not given due to school examinations.

“At some places, we are facing hurdles as we are not getting permission to hold public meetings citing examinations. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has faced problems in the Northeast, including Assam, and now it is facing problems in TMC-ruled West Bengal. Also,” he said.

Speaking on the issue on Thursday night, Choudhary had said that he thought he would get “exemption” for public meetings at some places in West Bengal but the administration is “saying they cannot give it”.

The Rahul Gandhi-led yatra, which started from Manipur on January 14, entered West Bengal from Assam on Thursday and took a two-day break. It will resume on January 28.

However, the ruling Trinamool Congress claimed that the administration in West Bengal is free from political influence.

TMC MP Shantanu said, “Adhir Chaudhary is responsible for the break of the Indian alliance in West Bengal. Secondly, all the opposition parties hold programs in the state, no one faces any problem. The administration might have taken this decision because of board exams in schools.” Sen said.
