Congratulations pour-in for Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for wining historic bronze at Parish Olympics

New Delhi: Congratulations pour-in for Indian shooters – Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for wining a historic bronze medal at Paris Olympics. Manu and Sarabjot defeated the South Korean duo of Lee Won Ho and Oh Ye Jin 16-10 in the 10 m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at Chateauroux, near Paris today.

Taking to her official X handle, President Droupadi Murmu said, “Congratulations to Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning bronze medal for India in the mixed team 10 metre air pistol event for shooting! Manu Bhaker has created history, becoming the first woman shooter from India to win two medals in the same Olympic games. She has done us immensely proud. I wish her and Sarabjot Singh many more laurels in the future.”

Likewise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his ‘X’ wrote, “Our shooters continue to make us proud! Congratulations to @realmanubhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning the Bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the #Olympics . Both of them have shown great skills and teamwork. India is incredibly delighted.”

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and former Odisha CM and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also joined the nation in congratulating the two athletes.

Cricket legend and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar said, “You two have brought our medal no. 2! Congratulations, @realmanubhaker & @Sarabjotsingh30, for winning the in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The entire nation stands tall with pride! Special mention to @realmanubhaker for creating history by becoming the first Indian in independent India to win 2 medals at the same Olympics! #Paris2024 #OIympics.”

“Superb performance @realmanubhaker and #SarabjotSingh! India’s second medal!,” read the post by Indian men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir.

With the win, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh became the first Indians to win a team medal in shooting. Likewise, Manu Bhaker also etched her name into the annals of Indian sports history, becoming the first Indian woman to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games. This achievement follows her earlier success, where she secured a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, marking a significant milestone for Indian shooting.
