Community effort to remove plastic and garbage from Kapra Lake in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Kapra Lake Revival Group and Hyderabad Cycling Revolution (HCR), a community that promotes active mobility, cleaned Kapra Lake on Sunday, removing plastic and other materials from the water. Telpur Neighborhood Association also conducted a cleanliness drive in Melacheruvu on Sunday in collaboration with the municipal staff.

After setting up tea stalls after clearing garbage sensitive points (GVPs), GHMC Kukatpally officials have now decided to set up places where people can play chess and carrom. A GHMC official said, “We have observed that, merely removing garbage sensitive spots is not working. Only replacing them with one establishment is yielding results and people are refraining from throwing garbage there.” The authorities have also decided to set up similar establishments that can generate employment opportunities for women self-help groups.
