Coimbatore: IG inspects border checkpoints to prevent rice smuggling

Coimbatore: Civil Supplies CID Inspector General of Police K Joshi Nirmal Kumar inspected the check posts located on the interstate borders of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to prevent smuggling of essential commodities. He visited the interstate check post at Gopalapuram and discussed with the police personnel on the steps taken to prevent smuggling of essential commodities like rice from PDS shops in Tamil Nadu to the neighbouring state.

He also urged the officials to intensify efforts including thorough checking of vehicles to completely stop the smuggling activity. The rice smuggled from ration shops here is sold at a higher price in Kerala. Earlier, the IG perused the documents regarding cases against smugglers, pending cases and case history of habitual offenders. He then urged the police personnel to keep an eye on repeat offenders and take preventive action.
