CM to inaugurate Martyr Emmanuel Sekaran Memorial Hall in Paramakudi today

Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the memorial for freedom fighter V. Emanuel Sekaran in Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district, on Saturday (January 17).

Born in 1924 in Sellur village, Ramanathapuram district, martyr V. Emanuel Sekaran championed India’s independence at a young age. He participated in the struggle against British rule and was sentenced to three months in prison.

He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and was imprisoned, and later served in the army in 1945. In 1950, he founded the “Movement for the Liberation of the Oppressed” organization for the oppressed.

He fought for the oppressed against the dual caste system and untouchability in 1954 and passed away on September 11, 1957. Praising his social contributions, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the hall housing the statue of Martyr V. Emmanuel Sekaran, built by the Information and Public Relations Department at a cost of ₹3 crore, in Paramakudi on Saturday (January 16) at 12 noon.

Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, representatives of local government bodies, and senior government officials are attending the event.
