CM Rekha Gupta reviewed the removal of silt, deadline for monsoon preparation set as May 31

Delhi: In a high-level review meeting on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed officials to expedite the desilting work and complete all preparations for the upcoming monsoon season by May 31. The meeting, held with the irrigation and flood control department at the Delhi Secretariat, also reviewed key infrastructure projects and green initiatives, including the development of the new “Atal Park” on 50 acres in Uttam Nagar.
The chief minister emphasised that seamless drainage is crucial to prevent waterlogging in the city and called for immediate disposal of the removed silt in an environmentally responsible manner. Officials informed that over 66% of the desilting work has already been completed. 66 advanced machines like draglines, hydraulic excavators and trash skimmers have been deployed to further expedite the process.
Highlighting the monsoon preparations, the chief minister said 190 pumps, including permanent, temporary and mobile units, have been arranged to manage water harvesting. He called for tightening inter-departmental coordination and regular checking of pump functionality in sensitive areas. To promote green cover, Chief Minister Gupta announced the development of ‘Atal Park’ on long-neglected and encroached land in Uttam Nagar. This park will focus on biodiversity, environmental conservation and public recreation. The plans also include integrating Sahibi river for riverfront development. Besides, about 61 km long roads will be built on both sides of Najafgarh drain. These roads will include landscaping, public utilities and street furniture. He directed that the work be started immediately, stressing on quality and timely completion.
