CM assures all possible help to major steel sector companies in Odisha

Odisha: Representatives of the Indian Steel Association met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan in the Odisha capital today.
During the meeting, the representatives, led by Indian Steel Association President Naveen Jindal, discussed ways to increase steel production in Odisha, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement.
The chief minister assured the association of providing necessary assistance to increase steel production in the state.
“The state government has set a target of making Odisha a prosperous state by 2036. Besides, Odisha aims to play a key role in making India a developed country by 2047. The steel and mine sectors are crucial for achieving the twin goals. The state government is committed to ensure adequate supply of raw material and provide other facilities to industries in Odisha,” the chief minister said.
According to the association, India is now producing 165 million tonnes of steel per year. The target has been set to increase steel production to 500 million tonnes by the year 2047. “Odisha will continue to play a major role in increasing steel production in the country. Steel plants in the state need adequate supply of iron ores and other necessary facilities to achieve the target,” the association said. The association also stressed on early auction of new iron ore mines in the state. It was revealed during the meeting that at least 30 iron ore mines are likely to be auctioned in Odisha this financial year. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary of Steel and Mines Department Surendra Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary of Industries Department Hemant Sharma, among others, were present in the meeting.
