CLTA meet: Top seed Atharva in pre-quarters
Chandigarh: Top seed Atharva Sharma of Maharashtra produced a comeback win over local challenger Rakshit Dhankar to advance to the men’s pre-quarterfinals of the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championships. Sharma faced a tough challenge from Dhankhar in the first set and then lost 5-7. However, he improved in the next two sets, winning 6–4, 6–1.
Punjab’s Sahajpreet Bajwa defeated Delhi’s Mayank Yadav 6-4, 6-3 and Arnav Bishnoi easily defeated Sarthak Gulati 6-2, 6-3. Delhi’s Bikramjit Chawla also advanced with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Telangana’s Vineet Mutyala, while Manipur’s Ashwajeet Senjam defeated Haryana’s Upanishad Bhardwaj 7-5, 6-3. Second seed Jagmeet Singh also entered the next round by defeating Manjot Singh Ahuja 6-1, 6-1.
In the women’s main draw, top seed Anjali Rathi of Haryana easily advanced by defeating Namira Diwan of Maharashtra 6-1, 6-0. Radhika Vasudev defeated Jigyasa Narsinghani 6-4, 6-0 and Karnataka’s Sanjita Ramesh defeated Delhi’s Gurjot Bharaj 6-2, 6-0. Uttar Pradesh’s Ritu Rai defeated Simran Bundela 6-2, 7-5 and Ruma Ashutosh Gaikwaari defeated Mili Pandit without losing a single game.
Satakshika Sahayak defeated Hareni Elanchezia, and Gamya Gupta beat Hansika Singh with the same scoreline 6-2, 6-2, while Mahika Khanna defeated Snigdha Patibandla 6-4, 6-2. Uttar Pradesh’s Shreya Pasricha also registered an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Delhi’s Samaira Malik and Ishwari Anant Matere defeated Diya Tyagi 6-0, 6-3.
