DELHI-NCR: The situation turned violent during the ‘Parliament March’ organized by the CJP (Joint People’s Front) in the capital. Tension gripped the area following clashes between protesters and security forces, accompanied by incidents of stone-pelting and vandalism. According to officials, over 118 police personnel were injured in the violence, while 70 protesters were detained in an effort to maintain law and order.
The administration stated that additional police forces were deployed to bring the situation under control, and security arrangements in the affected areas have been tightened. While the situation is currently reported to be under control, an investigation into the entire incident is underway.
How did the violence erupt?
According to reports, protesters marching towards Parliament were stopped at designated barricades. A heated argument ensued between some protesters and the police, which rapidly escalated into a violent clash.
Eyewitnesses reported that some individuals attempted to breach the barricades, triggering an episode of stone-pelting. Several government and private vehicles were damaged, and there were reports of damage to public property as well.
Over 118 police personnel injured
Police officials stated that a large number of security personnel sustained injuries during the violent clash. Many officers suffered injuries to their heads and other parts of their bodies and received hospital treatment. While some personnel were discharged after first aid, those with serious injuries are still undergoing treatment.
The police stated that stones and other objects were hurled at personnel on duty during the protest, resulting in injuries to many of them.
70 protesters detained
Police have detained 70 protesters on charges of violence and damaging public property. Officials said that CCTV footage from the scene, drone camera feeds, and other video recordings are being examined to identify others involved in the violence.
