Chinta Mohan: Amaravati Not Acceptable, Mocked as ‘Chandravati’

Former Union Minister and Congress leader Chinta Mohan has made sensational comments on the Andhra Pradesh government developing Amaravati as the capital. Speaking to the media in Delhi on Tuesday, he expressed objections to the construction of Amaravati. He proposed that it would be better to make Tirupati the capital than Amaravati. He said that the people of Rayalaseema and Uttar Andhra do not like Amaravati as the capital.
Chinta Mohan Eddeva said that people who do not want Amaravati to be the capital are jokingly calling it ‘Chandravati’. He said that if Tirupati is made the capital, people from all parts of the state will accept it. He questioned why a capital of one lakh acres is needed when governance is being carried out in the digital age. He warned that it would be enough to construct government buildings on just one thousand acres, and that the state would be mired in debt due to huge projects.
Chinta Mohan also responded to the redistribution of constituencies in the country. He expressed concern that the redistribution of constituencies would create serious inequalities in representation between the northern and southern Indian states. He warned that if the northern states get 600 seats, the southern states will get only 200 seats, which could lead to the ideology of dividing the country. He said that he was not against women’s reservation, but the central government should not rush into delimitation.
