China: 35 dead, 43 injured after car drove into crowd in Zhuhai
Zhuhai: In a freak accident, as many as thirty-five people were killed and 43 others injured in China’s southern city of Zhuhai on Monday evening. According to local news reports, a car lost control and drove into a group of people outside a sports centre 7.48 pm local time (11.48 am GMT) here, killing around thirty five people and injuring many others.
The car was reportedly being driven by a 62-year-old man. Police arrested the drive soon after the incident which took place on Monday evening.
The footage and images of the accident has surfaced on the internet. The video shows several people lying on the road unattended after the hit-and-run incident. Several ambulance arrived to transport the injured to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Police arrested the accused, identified by the surname Fan, for deliberately driving a small car into a group of pedestrians and fleeing the scene.
The reason behind his actions has not been disclosed yet. The accident took place a day before a major airshow opened in Zhuhai.
Zhuhai is hosting China’s biggest annual air show this week, where a new stealth jet fighter will be on display for the first time.
