Chief Minister inaugurates state-of-the-art farm processing hub in Tikrikilla

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Megh Farm Processing Hub and Tikrikilla Prime Hub on Saturday, marking a significant step in enhancing the state’s agricultural infrastructure. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Power Minister A T Mondal, Lok Sabha MP Agatha Sangma, and various MLAs and officials.

Constructed at an estimated cost of 14 crores and 10 lakhs, the Megh Farm Processing Hub and Tikrikilla Hub can process 20 metric tons of farm produce per day. Notably, the hubs are equipped with two cold storage units capable of maintaining temperatures of minus 40 and 10 degrees Celsius, ensuring the freshness of produce even during power outages, thanks to solar power panels installed for efficient power supply. Additionally, the processing hub can produce 15 metric tons of juice and a significant quantity of jam daily.

Chief Minister described the processing hub as one of the largest of its kind in the state and urged the people of the region to consider it an invaluable asset. He underscored the importance of such infrastructure in minimising wastage and preserving the freshness of agricultural produce, thereby maximising farmers’ income.

Highlighting the need for more such facilities, Sangma announced plans to establish mini-processing plants in all 50 C&RD Blocks of the state, addressing the region’s needs and enhancing accessibility. He also mentioned the recent sanction of 20 crores for the Nidanpur-Syamnagar road, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state.

Lok Sabha MP Agatha Sangma commended the project’s significance in promoting local produce like turmeric and cashew, which have gained recognition beyond the state’s borders. She expressed gratitude to the government for spearheading such crucial initiatives in the region.

During the programme, Chief Minister Sangma, accompanied by other dignitaries, distributed cheques worth 1 crore 23 lakh 20 thousand under the Community Investment Fund (CIF) MSRLS to cooperative societies and village organisations, recognising their excellence in cooperative movement and farm activities.
