Chennai: Shifting to second floor causing inconvenience to passengers
Chennai: Air travellers at the city airport faced trouble as the taxi pick-up point was shifted to the second floor of the multi-level car parking (MLCP) without any prior announcement. After the inauguration of the MLCP, passengers usually use the pick-up point on the ground floor, a few metres away from the exit gate, to board taxis or their own vehicles. However, on Monday morning, all passengers were asked to walk about a kilometre and board taxis from the second or third floor of the MLCP.
Passengers who had excess luggage were shocked and did not understand anything as there was no prior announcement about the change. Battery vehicles ferrying passengers to the car parking area were also in very few numbers. Passengers said it was unfair to make them go to the third floor of the MLCP to board the vehicles. They said only two or three passengers with luggage could board the lift together as the MLCP has only three lifts.
Meanwhile, airport officials said the MLCP was under contract to a private firm which decided to change the pick-up point. He said passengers were not informed in advance as the pickup points are changed on a trial basis. Sources alleged that the private firm changed the location of the pickup points to increase the waiting time and charge more fare.
