CHENNAI: Delay in results of Assistant Professor exam has upset over 40,000 candidates

Chennai: Over 40,000 teaching candidates across the state are upset because the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has yet to release the results determining the recruitment of over 2,000 assistant professors in government arts and science colleges. The TRB, under the Higher Education Department, issued a notification in October 2025 to fill 2,708 assistant professor posts, as 37 new government arts and science colleges were created in the past four years and 16 more in 2025. Nearly 42,000 candidates appeared for the exam in December 2025, with overall attendance around 90 percent. PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss had said that the recruitment exam results were being released so quickly because the assembly elections were coming soon. He alleged that only the assistant professor exam results were being deliberately delayed. “Upon asking the reason for this delay, it was revealed that the Tamil Nadu government is facing a serious financial crisis,” he alleged. A teaching candidate from Poonamallee said that many fellow candidates were surprised by the delay in the release of results. He appealed to the state government to release the results soon so that candidates could properly prepare for the interviews. Denying speculation about the delay in results, a senior official from the Directorate of Collegiate Education said the results were expected within a few weeks, adding, “Assistant professors will be appointed before the start of the upcoming academic year so that student studies in government arts and science colleges across the state are not affected.”
