Chennai: CM Stalin laid the foundation stone of a 27-storey building

Chennai: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 27-storey Central Tower Building, which will be part of the proposed Central Square project. The tall building will redefine the skyline and landscape of the state capital as it will dwarf the heritage Chennai Central Railway Terminal Building, which has long been considered the city’s landmark. Apart from the tower building, the Central Square will have a pedestrian plaza and subways connecting important buildings and a huge parking space with a capacity to accommodate around 600 cars and over 1,600 two-wheelers at any given time to support the tower building.
A corridor connecting the Central Railway Station, Ripon Building, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Park and Park Town railway stations will also be part of the Central Square project. Inspired by New York’s Times Square and London’s Trafalgar Square and other landmark buildings that define identities across the world, the state government or its special purpose vehicle, Chennai Metro Rail, has planned to construct a tower building over 115 metres high at the most frequented location in Chennai. Majority of the realty in the multi-purpose building will be reserved for offices and the rest will be used for entertainment options, such as a hotel, which will be built on the top two floors, and a huge shopping area and a multiplex will also be built to attract people.
