Chennai: Broken slabs and uneven footpaths in Chromepet cause inconvenience to pedestrians.

Chennai: Pedestrians using the footpath on Rajendra Prasad Road in Chrompet are facing difficulties as the slabs have broken and caved in, leaving potholes and a rough surface. Residents have complained that people often trip and fall, resulting in injuries and minor injuries. The road from MIT Junction to Hastinapuram via Nehru Nagar and Kumaran Kundram is one of the busiest routes, home to schools, banks, shops, and the famous Kumaran Kundram Temple. Because the road is constantly vehicular, pedestrians use the footpath to walk. However, the damaged slabs have made the footpath unsafe. Senior citizens are the most affected, losing balance and falling.
During rush hour, school-going students often trip and fall. Many of them suffer injuries, and their uniforms are torn due to the broken slabs and potholes. Residents reported that the footpath has not been repaired for many years and is now unusable. Members of the Chrompet Welfare Association also protested, demanding immediate repair of the sidewalk. Santhanam, a Chrompet activist, said that when they complained to the Tambaram Corporation, officials stated that Rajendra Prasad Road and its sidewalks fall under the National Highways Department. When contacted, highway officials said the repair work was delayed due to a lack of funds, but they assured them that the stretch would be restored soon.
