Chandigarh: The crematorium will be renovated at a cost of Rs 59 lakh
Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation is going to repair and renovate the crematorium in Industrial Area, Phase-1. For the renovation, the Municipal Corporation has prepared an estimate of Rs 59.82 lakh and has also issued tenders for it. The work includes removal of old plaster, cleaning the surface for plaster, installation of doors, windows and glazed shutters in the rooms, painting of the ceiling, installation of paver blocks, etc. Earlier, the Municipal Corporation House had approved a proposal to upgrade the Sector 25 crematorium at a cost of Rs 7.08 crore. However, the UT administration had stopped the project after criticism of the huge amount being spent on it. In a presentation given by a consulting firm in the Municipal Corporation House, it was told that fancy white and lilac coloured flowers will be grown in the premises of the Sector 25 crematorium. Mounds will be made and the area will be landscaped. There was a plan to install a leaf-shaped ceiling and ambience lighting. However, it was felt that these things were not required at the crematorium.
