Chandigarh: Sector 26 College won the cricket competition

Chandigarh: Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) College, Sector 26 won the Punjab University Inter-College Cricket Tournament by registering a 16-run win over GGD SD College, Sector 32. Batting first, the Sector 26 team scored 142/9 in the stipulated 20 overs. While the top order failed to put up a decent performance, Mani Giri (46 off 34 balls, four fours and a six) and Nilay (30 off 25 balls, three fours) helped the team reach a respectable score. Mohit Nain (21) and Gurneet (14) were two other notable scorers from the team. Among the bowlers, Manhar Bawa took 3/33, while Sangam Sharma (2/33), Hardik Choudhary (1/17), Arnav Shemar (1/27) and Shahbaz Singh (1/31) also shared wickets for the bowling side. In reply, Sector 32 team could only manage 126 runs in 18.2 overs. Opener Yuvraj Rai – 52 runs off 42 balls with the help of five fours and a six – was the main run scorer for the team, while Prashant Ahlawat contributed 29 runs. For the bowling side, Pradyumna took two, while Jatin Salaria, Arbab, Manu Sharma and Nilay took one wicket each. DAV College, Sector 10 defeated Punjab University Campus by 10 wickets to finish third. Batting first, the campus team posted a target of 175 runs with the help of Anshul Chaudhary’s 74 runs off 49 balls and Aman (53 runs off 38 balls). For the bowling side, Paras took three wickets. In reply, Nipun Sharda contributed an unbeaten 93 runs off 60 balls and Saksham contributed 63 runs off 54 balls, helping Sector 10 team reach the third spot.
