Chandigarh: Problem of garbage dumping in Sector 11
Chandigarh: Residents of Sector 11 are grappling with the growing problem of roadside garbage dumping and littering around dustbins, making the area an eyesore and a health hazard. The problem is particularly severe around the Rehri Market adjacent to the Civil Dispensary, where heaps of garbage have become a daily nuisance. Expressing her disappointment over the negligence of municipal corporation officials, Sandeep Kaur, a local resident, said, “The situation has worsened over time. Earlier, the officials used to take swift action and fine shopkeepers and residents responsible for littering. Now, our complaints go unheard and the piles of garbage keep increasing.”
She urged the officials to take immediate action against the erring vendors and ensure proper garbage management in the area. Another resident Hardeep Singh said, “The garbage-strewn path is the only way to reach the main market of Sector 11D. Passing through this path has become extremely difficult due to the foul smell.” House owner Maninder Samra raised concerns about the potential health risks posed by the garbage. “This unhygienic environment is giving rise to diseases,” they warned. The residents have demanded immediate intervention of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to clear the garbage and punish those responsible for its improper disposal.
