Chandigarh: Political parties held public meetings and padyatras on the last day of election campaign in Kalka and Panchkula Assembly Constituencies. The last day of election campaign ended this evening. People will vote for both the seats on Saturday. Congress held a public meeting in support of its candidate Pradeep Chaudhary. Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s son and Congress MP Deepender Hooda reached Kalka Assembly Constituency today in support of Chaudhary. Hundreds of party workers and city residents gathered to hear him. Addressing the gathering, Hooda said that he spoke to Chaudhary at midnight and decided to come to Kalka in the morning. He said, “We have received news that Pradeep Chaudhary is winning the election from Kalka. So I decided to come here to congratulate him.” Hooda claimed that Congress is going to form the government in Haryana. He said, “BJP has pushed Haryana to the forefront in terms of unemployment, illegal drug activities, violence and immigration to other countries. They have put a full stop to development and prosperity in the state.” The MP said the Congress will spread happiness and work for all people if it forms the government in the state. “We will increase old age pension and monthly payment for women. We will provide gas cylinders for Rs 500, health insurance cover up to Rs 25 lakh, plots to BPL families and 300 units of free electricity on the lines of Delhi,” she said. She said people should vote to remove the BJP from Haryana’s political scene. She praised Choudhary and appealed to local Congress leaders to unite and support her. In a show of strength on the last day of campaigning for the assembly elections, BJP candidate from Kalka Shakti Rani Sharma took out a padyatra.

Her husband Vinod Sharma went door-to-door seeking support from the people. Sharma was seated in an open vehicle when the padyatra began from Kalka Anaaj Mandi. Later, former Union minister Vinod Sharma and her son MP Kartikeya Sharma also joined it. The padyatra was attended by a large number of youth, workers and supporters wearing BJP flags and party caps. They raised slogans in support of the party and Shakti Rani. The crowd swelled with hundreds of people joining the march in Pinjore and Raipur Rani. People gathered on balconies and rooftops to watch the demonstration. Those accompanying Sharma’s vehicle had to keep others away with ropes as the youth, men and women at the gathering danced to the tunes of Haryanvi songs written in her support. Addressing the gathering, Kartikeya Sharma said, “We are seeing a huge crowd of people in support of Shakti Rani Sharma. This shows that the people of Kalka have decided that the BJP will win the elections.”
