Chandigarh: Panel seeks report in school girl rape case

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has sought an action taken and status report in the incident of sexual assault on a minor girl student. CCPCR Chairperson Shipra Bansal said it is a matter of great concern and the commission has sought an action taken and status report of the incident from the police station and the school concerned. She said as a preventive measure, the commission has initiated sensitisation sessions for non-teaching and teaching staff of all schools in the UT on relevant legal provisions/Acts to create a safety net for students.

The Zirakpur police on Wednesday arrested a bus driver of a prominent Chandigarh school for repeatedly raping a 17-year-old Class 12 student of the school. Blackmailing her through her morphed photographs, the accused, Mohammad Razak, 26, of Mani Mazra, raped the girl thrice between May and July, each time at her home. The girl finally told her parents about the incidents, who lodged a complaint with the police. Police registered a case against the accused under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him.
