Chandigarh: Man acquitted in three-year-old rape case
Chandigarh: The Special Judge of Chandigarh’s Fast Track Court has acquitted 22-year-old Manjot Bawa, a resident of Malerkotla, accused of rape three years ago. The police had registered the case on August 3, 2021. The complainant alleged that she came in contact with the accused through Instagram. After this, both of them became friends and started meeting each other and got into a relationship. She claimed that the accused falsely promised to marry her and often took her pictures and made videos. She further alleged that the accused forcibly had physical relations with her and also started blackmailing her by saying that he has her obscene pictures and videos. Later he also started demanding money from her. She alleged that the accused and his friends came to her house and tried to rape her. They also beat up her mother and brother. She further said that the accused created her fake Instagram account and uploaded her obscene pictures and videos there. The accused was arrested during the investigation. The accused’s lawyer SS Rana argued that the accused has been falsely implicated in the case. The complainant also did not support the prosecution’s case. There was no other evidence to support the prosecution’s case. After hearing arguments, the accused was acquitted.
