Chandigarh: Housing Board cancels allotment of 20 flats
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has cancelled the allotment of 20 flats in Sectors 49 and 56. The allotments were cancelled as neither the allottees deposited the licence fee nor responded despite repeated show-cause notices. The flats were allotted under the Small Flats Scheme, which required licence fee to be paid every month. Each of these allottees owed licence fee of Rs 1.5 lakh or more. Recently, the audit report pointed out that the CHB has failed to recover licence fee/rent of Rs 44.26 crore from 13,464 defaulters in various sectors by March 31, 2023.
In August 2013, the UT administration decided that beneficiaries would be allotted small flats for a period of 20 years with a licence fee of Rs 800 per month for the first five years. There will be an increase of 20% for the subsequent five-year period, making the fee Rs 960, Rs 1,152 and Rs 1,382 for each successive period. Allotments of eight small flats in Sector 49 and 12 flats in Sector 56 have been cancelled. Along with the cancellation of allotments, the CHB has asked the allottees to hand over possession of the flats to the CHB within 30 days. If the allottees do not hand back possession, the eviction process will be initiated. Licence fees of over Rs 40 lakh are due on the flats.
