Chandigarh: Hariyali Teej celebration begins
Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation today kicked off the Zero Waste Teej Festival at the Garden of Shrubs in Sector 46-C. Mayor Kuldeep Kumar inaugurated the two-day colourful event in the presence of Area Councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi, other councillors, Municipal Corporation officials and city residents. The two-day fair dedicated to the theme Har Ghar Tiranga: Mera Desh, Mera Gaurav featured Punjabi, Haryanvi and Rajasthani folk dances and songs, a mix of Gidda and Bhangra and ‘Teeyan De Geet’ by renowned artists from various states. The audience present could not stop themselves from dancing to the beats of dhols and popular Punjabi songs. The Municipal Corporation team and self-help groups spread awareness about waste management, recycling of products, composting and community empowerment.
An eco-friendly ‘Zero Waste Rasoi’ food court was also set up on the occasion, which provided food items at reasonable prices. The use of plastic items was strictly prohibited and promotion of biodegradable and recyclable products was encouraged. The live game set-up “Game Zone” was one of the main attractions. The selfie point with traditional set-up was also a popular spot. Other attractions included camel rides, cart rides, jugglers, puppet shows and stalls of sweets, handicrafts, designer clothes and other household items. During the cultural evening, renowned singer Master Saleem enthralled the audience with various Punjabi songs. Punjabi singer Resham Singh Anmol will perform during the cultural evening tomorrow.
