Chandigarh: Firing on SUV, third firing in 48 hours

Chandigarh: Less than 48 hours after the firing incident at Night Food Street and subsequently at a house in Sector 56, another firing incident took place on Dadu Majra/Dhanas Road last night. It is alleged that notorious criminal Vijay and his accomplices, who were involved in the earlier two incidents, opened fire at an SUV. Around five bullets were fired, two of which hit the vehicle. At around 10 pm, complainant Gurjeet Singh alias Chota Bura, who is a resident of Dhanas, was returning home when the assailants in a white car intercepted his SUV and opened fire at him. Gurjeet, who provides bouncers to clubs, immediately informed the police. A team reached the spot and examined the crime scene. Gurjeet informed that the assailants fired four-five rounds. Police recovered an empty shell from the spot. The forensic team also inspected the spot.

In his statement to the police, Gurjeet alleged that Vijay, a resident of Sector 25, was involved in the attack. The complainant had a fight with Vijay at a club a few days ago. Though the police have named Vijay in the FIR lodged at Sector 11 police station, DSP (Central) Gurmukh Singh said they were verifying Gurjeet’s claims. Vijay had also taken responsibility for these incidents on social media. Vijay’s name is included in the BC (person of bad character) list of Sector 11 police station, sources said. Senior Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Sandhu, who is a councillor from Dhanas, said there used to be a checkpost on Sector 25-Dhanas road near the temple. It was removed a few years ago. In his statement to the police, Gurjeet alleged that Vijay, a resident of Sector 25, was involved in the attack. Gurjeet had a fight with Vijay at a club a few days ago.
Previous incidents
September 1: Three bullets were fired outside the Night Food Street (NFS) opposite the PGI gate. Later, the same group fired at the house of a Sector 56 resident who runs a food counter at NFS.
