Chandigarh: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will appoint agency to handle central projects
Chandigarh: With an aim to realise ‘garbage free’ and ‘water secure’ status, the City Municipal Corporation will set up a dedicated project management unit (PMU) to handle Swachh Bharat, AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) and NCAP (National Clean Air Programme) projects. According to the MC, the PMU is required with experts in the field to provide direct support to the civic body to ensure effective implementation and coordination of the programmes. The PMU will be responsible to effectively lead and initiate planning, management, design, execution and implementation of the component of the three projects.
The PMU will work closely with the corporation in the annual Swachh Survey, Garbage Free City Certification, Jal+ Certification, Drinking Water Survey, Air Survey, National Water Awards or any other survey conducted by the Centre. The unit will build a sustainable capacity related to upcoming and advanced technologies and will assist in operationalising policies and implementing institutional development, capacity building, monitoring and quality assurance of the programme outputs. A fresh tender will be issued for selection of the agency to set up the PMU for two years. Eight consultants will be appointed, which will cost the municipal corporation Rs 25 lakh per month. The agenda has already been approved by the municipal corporation house and the tender process will start soon.
