Chandigarh: 2 FIRs registered under new criminal laws

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police today registered two FIRs under the new criminal laws. The first FIR pertained to a theft that took place in an industrial area. On receiving information, the investigating officer (IO) immediately visited the scene and recorded evidence using the e-Evidence app pre-installed on the tablet provided to him. The process is in line with Section 105 of the Indian Evidence Code (BNSS). The video was synced to the cloud and the Session ID (SID) of the evidence was recorded in the case diary. A certificate under Section 63(4) of the Indian Evidence Act was automatically generated by the app, ensuring chain of custody. The FIRs registered under Sections 305 and 331(4) of the BNS were recorded on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) platform.

Subsequently, a CFSL expert was requested to visit the scene to comply with Section 176(3) of the BNSS. The second FIR involved a case of assault and intimidation. Industrial Area Police Station received information about an injured person admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. The IO visited the hospital and recorded the statement of the injured person who stated that he was held hostage and assaulted by six persons, due to which he got injured. The IO visited the crime scene in Sector 30 and recorded the evidence including blood stains using e-Evidence App. The process was videographed using the app. The video was synced to the cloud and the SID was entered in the case diary. The FIR registered under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 190, 191(2), 191(3), 351(2) and 351(3) of the IPC was registered on the CCTNS platform.
