CHANDIGARH: 17 people caught in Panchkula police’s net on gambling charges

Police on Friday arrested 17 people who were found gambling in public places.

A police team led by Chandimandir SHO Lalit Kumar arrested 13 gamblers from a public place in Chandimandir.

The suspects were identified as Jagir Hasan and Gulsanawar, residents of Saini locality of Pinjore, Akit, resident of Beed Ghaggar village, Rajesh Kumar and Lal, Basant, Sonu, Manish Sharma, Pasdev Singh and Rakesh, residents of Pinjore. Sunil and Ram Kumar of Chandimandir, Chandikotla and Manish of Surajpur. An amount of Rs 4270 was recovered from him.

A case has been registered in this regard at Chandimandir police station.

In another case, a team led by Sector 16 police post in-charge Gurpal Singh caught four people gambling in a public place. The suspects were identified as Tiku, Mukesh, Krishna and Dinesh alias Rakesh, all residents of Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh. He was arrested with gambling money worth Rs 4,590. A case has been registered against him in Sector 14 police station.

Panchkula DCP Sumer Pratap Singh said that the police is taking strict action against people gambling and drinking alcohol in public places.
