Chandigarh: 17 get state awards during Teachers’ Day celebration

Chandigarh: The UT’s School Education Department organised Teachers’ Day celebrations at Raj Bhawan today. The event included cultural programmes and a felicitation ceremony to confer state awards and citations to teachers. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was present as the chief guest on the occasion. UT Advisor Rajiv Verma was the chief guest.
The event began with lighting of lamps, followed by a beautiful group dance performance by the teachers of GGMSSS-18 depicting the role of a teacher in the lives of students and nation building. The final felicitation ceremony commenced where 17 principals and teachers were given state awards, 9 teachers were given citations for their exceptional work and four teachers were given special recognition awards. The local MC also celebrated Teachers’ Day under the ‘Swachhata Ki Muhr’ initiative. Mayor Kuldeep Kumar felicitated ‘Swachhata Advisors’ from schools and colleges across the city.
