Chandigarh: 17-day street cricket tournament concludes
Chandigarh: The 17-day gully cricket tournament concluded today. Team No. 2 and Team No. 203 were declared joint winners in the boys category. The final match scheduled to be held at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Saturday could not be played due to rain. Whereas, in the girls category, Team No. 3 and Team No. 35 were declared joint winners. The tournament, organised by the UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police, saw participation of a record 256 teams in the boys category and 46 teams in the girls category.
The closing ceremony, which was to be held at the cricket stadium in Sector 16, was later shifted to the Bhargava Auditorium of PGI due to rain. The winning teams were felicitated in the presence of former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev and Ashok Malhotra, Chandigarh Police IG RK Singh, UT Cricket Association President Sanjay Tandon and others.
Along with felicitating the winning teams, the organisers presented medical kits to the participants and hygiene kits to the girls. During the event, Acharya Manish, representing Asia Book of Records, presented the certificate of record and recognized the event as the tournament with the highest number of teams. In his address, Tandon termed all the players as brand ambassadors and appealed to them to inspire others to participate in the upcoming third edition of the gully cricket tournament.
